You can’t handle the FOSS! Son, we live in a world that has applications built with mixed IP, and those application have to be built by men with the best software. Who’s gonna do it? You? You, Procurement and Legal teams? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom! You weep for loss of indemnity and you curse the lack of vender support. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that the use of open source components, while needing management, creates better applications! And FOSS existence, while complex and risky to you, increases productivity! You don’t want the truth, because deep down in places you don’t talk about at parties, you want FOSS in that app! You need FOSS in that app! We use words like “obligation,” “community,” “freedom.” We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline! I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that FOSS provides, and then questions the manner in which FOSS provides it! I would rather you just said “Thank you,” complied with licenses, and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up an IDE, and make some contributions. Either way, I don’t give a damn what you think you are entitled to!
